PB Remote Skills Academy started its journey in 1997 as a modest dry-lab laparoscopic skills development center, near Govt Medical College, Trivandrum, Kerala, equipped with just a single training tower. Initially, it served as a satellite training center for the Indian Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery Training and Research (IILS) in Coimbatore, under the mentorship of Dr. V. Venkatesh, chairperson of IILS. As the first comprehensive laparoscopic surgery training center in South India, IILS offered hands-on training with an Animal Laboratory, where each trainee practiced on live animals under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon, ensuring a practical and immersive learning experience.

We were fortunate to have pioneers like Mr. P. Hridayarj, India's first master trainer in animal lab training who received specialized training from the United States Surgical Corporation (USSC later merged with Tycos and finally with Medtronic), and Mr. J. S. Ashoka Sabarwal, a visionary laparoscopic hand instrument designer, as key supporters in establishing this training facility.

From the outset, our mission was clear: to support laparoscopic surgery training for postgraduate students and teaching staff at the Government Medical College, Trivandrum. As we grew, PB Remote Skills Academy transformed into India’s first touring dry lab, delivering hands-on laparoscopic training to students and professionals across the country. This unique initiative empowered trainees to excel in their surgical skills and thrive in the dynamic field of minimally invasive surgery.

Today, PB Remote Skills Academy remains committed to accessibility and innovation in surgical education under the visionary leadership of our founder, S Prakash Babu. With over 27 years of expertise, he has guided the academy in pioneering home-based training programs that bring advanced laparoscopic skills directly to the learner’s doorstep. Our programs provide global access to high-quality surgical training, enabling surgeons worldwide to advance their skills in laparoscopic techniques.
